Garlic Vine or Rasun Lata

The Garlic Vine, also known as Rasun Lata, is an extraordinary plant you can cultivate in your home garden. As the name suggests, it is a climbing vine that thrives particularly well in tropical regions. With a little care, this plant can grow beautifully in pots on your rooftop garden in our country. It is called Garlic Vine because its leaves and flower petals emit a scent similar to garlic; in fact, many people use the dried leaves and petals as a substitute for garlic.

Planting and Soil Preparation

• You can easily find saplings of this plant at Go Green Nursery for under 100 rupees.

• Since this plant requires a significant amount of nutrients to grow, you should use a higher proportion of organic fertilizer when preparing the soil.

• To maintain moisture in the soil, use cocopeat or wood shavings.

• Mix these with one part red sand to complete the soil preparation.

Potting and Care

• Once the soil is ready, transplant the sapling into a 12-inch pot.

• The plant requires a lot of water, but you must ensure that water does not stand at the base, as this can cause root rot.

• Because it is a climber, provide stakes or supports around the plant once it starts growing and tie it securely.

• Place the plant in bright sunlight to ensure healthy growth.

Feeding and Maintenance

• Apply fermented mustard cake fertilizer every 10 days.

• Note that in our country, the plant generally does not bloom from November to January.

• During this dormant period (November–January), there is no need to provide any fertilizer.

• After this period, ensure you feed the plant at least twice a month.

• Like other plants, spray with neem oil once a month to keep it healthy.

রসুন লতা বা গার্লিক ভাইন
বাড়িতে বাগান করতে পারেন একটি অসাধারণ গাছ যার নাম হল গার্লিক ভাইন বা রসুন লতা। নামেতেই বোঝা যাচ্ছে, এটি একটি লতানো গাছ। আসলে এটি ট্রপিক্যাল এলাকাতে ভালো হয়। তবে একটু যত্ন করলে আমাদের দেশে আপনার ছাদ বাগানে ও এই গাছ টবের মধ্যে খুব সুন্দর ভাবে বেড়ে উঠতে পারে । এই গাছের পাতা এবং ফুলের পাপড়ি শুকিয়ে অনেকেই রসুনের বিকল্প হিসেবে ব্যবহার করে থাকেন, তাই একে রসুন লতা বলা হয়। এই গাছের পাতা এবং পাপড়ি থেকে রসুনের মতন গন্ধ বের হয়।

Go Green নার্সারি থেকে অতি সহজেই ১০০ টাকার মধ্যেই এই গাছের চারা পেয়ে যাবেন। এই গাছের বড় হওয়ার জন্য প্রচুর পরিমাণে খাদ্যের প্রয়োজন হয়। তাই এই গাছের জন্য যখন মাটি প্রস্তুত করবেন তখন জৈব সারের পরিমাণ একটু বেশি দিতে হবে এছাড়াও মাটিতে ময়েশ্চার ধরে রাখার জন্য ব্যবহার করতে হবে কোকোপিট অথবা কাঠের গুঁড়ো। এর সঙ্গে একভাগ লাল বালি ভাল করে মিশিয়ে নিয়ে মাটি তৈরি করতে হবে।

মাটি তৈরি করা হয়ে গেলে একটি ১২ ইঞ্চি পাত্রের মধ্যে খুব সহজেই মাটি দিয়ে গাছটি প্রতিস্থাপন করুন। এই গাছে প্রচুর পরিমাণে জল এর প্রয়োজন হয়। তবে দেখতে হবে যেন গাছের গোড়ায় কোনভাবেই না জল লেগে থাকে। তাহলে গাছের গোড়া পচে যেতে পারে। যেহেতু লতানো হয়, তাই একটু বড় হওয়ার পরেই গাছের চারপাশে খুঁটি দিয়ে গাছটিকে ভালো করে বেঁধে দিতে হবে।

গাছটিকে মোটামুটি উজ্জ্বল রোদে রেখে দিন। এতে গাছের বাড়বাড়ন্ত ভালো হবে। গাছে ১০ দিন অন্তর অন্তর সরষের খোল পচা সার দিয়ে যেতে হবে। তবে গাছটি আমাদের দেশে মোটামুটি নভেম্বর থেকে জানুয়ারি মাস পর্যন্ত কোন রকম ফুল দেয় না। তাই এই সময়টা গাছকে কোন রকম খাবার দেওয়ার প্রয়োজন নেই। এর পরে আস্তে আস্তে প্রতিমাসে অন্তত দুবার করে গাছে খাবার অবশ্যই দিতে হবে। অন্যান্য গাছেরমতো এই গাছেও মাসে একবার করে নিম তেল স্প্রে করে দিতে হবে।
